Aqueous extract of the plant exhibits antihyperglycaemic activity in rats due to insulinotropic property.
The indigotin content of the plant (0.8—L0%) is higher than that of other species of Indigofera. The leaves contain up to 4% of a flavonol glycoside which on hydrolysis yields rhamnose and kaempferol.
