TEST FOR OCCULT BLOOD

Aim

To detect the occult blood in the given sample of urine.

Apparatus

Test tube, pipette, holder

Procedure

Take 2 ml. of urine in a test tube and boil for 2-3 minutes and cool to room temperature. Add 2m1. of saturated solution of Benzidine in glacial acetic acid. Mix well and add 1 ml of hydrogen peroxide. A deep blue colour indicates the presence of haemoglobin.

b. Renal calculi

c. Genito urinary tumours

2. Renal lesions

a. Acute and chronic glomerulo nephritis.
