Botanical name - Ficus religiosa

Description - Large trees with or without aerial roots, often epiphytic. Leaves ovate, apex caudate. Figs in axillary pairs, sessile, dark purple when ripe.

Chemical Constituents- Bark contains n-octacosanol, methyl oleanolate, lauosterol, stigmasterol, lupen-3-one, tannin.

Use - Figs laxative. Infusion of bark used in ulcers and skin troubles. The bark is used as astringent in gonorrhoea and rheumatism. It is useful also in scabies and other Skin diseases.
