Name - लवङ्गं

Botanical name - Syzigium aromaticum

Description - Consists of the flower buds of Syzigium aromaticum Merr. & l.m. Perry, of the family Myrtaceae. A good Sample is characterised by the presence of some of the petals intact and by the exudation of oil from the stalk when Indented by the finger nail. Exhausted worthless stuff has decapitated buds and do not exude oil.

Chemical Constituents- The essential oil contains eugenol.

Use - The drug is aromatic, stimulant, carminative and expectorant. It is useful in colds, flatulence and dyspepsia
