Botanical name - Cyperus scariosus

 

 

Description - Phytography: A glabrous herb; stolon slender, 0.8-5.0 cm by 0.25 cm, clothed by elliptic, acute, lax, concolorous scales; stem 40-90 cm long, slender, triquetrous at top; leaves variable, usually short, narrow, weak; umbels slender, thin, rays slender.

Chemical Constituents- Chemical contents : Essential oil (from tuber): sesquiterpene, cyperenone, cyperenol, patchoulenol, isopatchoulenone, p-selinene, isopatchoula-3,5-diene, retundene, rotundenol; Leaf: leptosidin.

 

Use - Traditional use : ETHNIC COMMUNITIES OF MIRZAPUR (Uttar Pradesh) : Rhizome : as antidote to snake bite. Modern use : Essential oil (from tuber): anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hypotensive, stimulant of Central Nervous System.
