Description - Marshy or aquatic herbs with creeping rhizome. Leaves distichous, large. Flowers minute, in terminal, cylindrical spikes. Fruit fusiform, dehiscing by an apical lid

Chemical Constituents- Pollen contains flavonoid glucoside, kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside, isorhamnetin-3-O-neohesperidoside, kaempferol- 3-O-rhamnosylglucoside. quercetin-3-O-neohesperidoside, typhaneoside. Leaves and flowers contain alkaloid. Inflorescence contains typhic acid. Seeds yield fatty oil

 

Use - Rhizome astringent and diuretic.
