Description - Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is an evergreen shrub, without prickles on stems. Simple leaves are bright green, short petioled, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, irregularly and coarsely serrate towards the top, glabrous on both sides. Showy flowers in Solitary, axillary, pedicles very long, corolla is tubular below, red.

Chemical Constituents- Root contains gossypol, mansonones D and F. Heart-wood contains sesquiterpenoids hibiscones A-D, hibisquinones A-D, lapachol. Flowers contain anthocyanin pigment, cyanidin diglucoside. Leaves contain carotene

Use - It is used extensively in diseases of hair like graying, hair fall, dandruff. In diseases of uterus like Leucorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea. -- Decoction of flowers used in bronchial catarrh. Leaves anodyne, aperient, emollie
